NumisCollect® proudly launches the new Fossil 3D Series with Ammonite, an extraordinary 2 oz silver collectible that turns prehistoric history into true three dimensional numismatic art. Rather than simply depicting a fossil, the coin recreates an actual ammonite find in remarkable detail, using Ultra High Relief to reproduce its natural form and depth. The irregular stone shaped format enhances the illusion even further, while selective copper plating gives the fossil itself a warm contrasting appearance against the surrounding silver rock surface.
Every angle reveals something different. Viewed from above, the ammonite appears embedded inside a freshly split stone, while the side profile reveals just how dramatically the fossil rises from the surface. Issued as 5 Dollars legal tender of Niue in 2026 and struck from 2 oz of .999 fine silver, this first release establishes the Fossil 3D Series as a collection focused on realism, sculptural depth, and remarkable objects from the distant past. A fossil millions of years in the making, recreated in precious metal for a new generation of collectors. Available now through NumisCollect® distributors worldwide.
Coin description
The reverse recreates a split piece of natural stone containing an ammonite fossil in spectacular Ultra High Relief. The irregular stone shaped surface features subtle cracks and geological details, while the fossil rises dramatically from the center as a fully sculpted three dimensional form. Selective copper plating highlights the ammonite and creates a striking contrast against the surrounding silver surface, emphasizing every rib, curve, and natural detail of the original fossil.
The obverse continues the natural stone appearance with a rough, irregular sculpted surface that gives the coin the character of an authentic geological specimen. At the center appears the official Coat of Arms of Niue, accompanied by the inscriptions “NIUE ISLAND”, “2026”, “5 DOLLARS”, and “2 OZ .999 FINE SILVER”. The irregular outline and textured surface continue around the entire composition, reinforcing the impression of a genuine piece of ancient stone rather than a conventional round coin.
Background information
Ammonites were marine mollusks that lived in the world’s oceans for hundreds of millions of years. Their distinctive spiral shells are among the most recognizable fossils found today. They first appeared more than 400 million years ago and survived through several major geological periods before disappearing during the mass extinction at the end of the Cretaceous Period around 66 million years ago.
Because ammonites evolved rapidly and were distributed across oceans worldwide, their fossils are especially important to paleontologists. Different species can help scientists identify and date particular layers of rock, making them valuable markers for understanding Earth’s geological history. Their beautifully structured shells also demonstrate the remarkable natural geometry that developed in prehistoric marine life.
