Coin description
The reverse features a finely sculpted portrait of Leonardo da Vinci dominating the right side of the composition, accompanied by his name and life dates, 1452 to 1519. Surrounding his portrait are references to some of his most famous achievements, including the Mona Lisa, the Vitruvian Man, The Last Supper, and one of his visionary flying machine concepts. Leonardo’s distinctive signature is also incorporated into the design. A dynamic background of flowing lines brings the different elements together, reflecting the extraordinary range of his creative imagination.
The obverse displays the Coat of Arms of Niue at the center, surrounded by an intricate border of artistic and cultural symbols representing creative disciplines throughout history. Among the motifs are references to music, painting, sculpture, literature, theater, and education, reinforcing the theme of artistic achievement. The obverse also includes the inscriptions “NIUE ISLAND”, “2026”, “2 DOLLARS”, and “1 OZ .999 FINE SILVER”.
