Coin description
The reverse of the coin depicts the goose and her daily golden egg. On the left the farmer, with his greedy look & hands. The slaughter knife to kill the goose in the front, together with the inscription: “2020” (the year of issue).
The obverse side of the coin depicts the standard Coat of Arms of the Republic of Palau with the inscriptions: “REPUBLIC OF PALAU” (the issuing country) and “10$” (the face value).
Background information
The Goose That Laid the Golden Egg is one of the well-known Aesop’s Fables. It tells a story about a man and his wife who owned an exceptional goose. The goose would lay a golden egg every day, which made the couple very rich. The couple thinks that if they could sell all the golden eggs inside the goose, they could be richer much faster since they don’t have to wait for the goose to lay her daily egg. Once the couple had killed the goose and cut her open, they found out she was just like every other goose. There were no golden eggs inside her at all, and they received no more golden eggs. The conclusion is that too much greed results in nothing.
