Coin description
The reverse of the coin depicts the well known V-sign in retro colors which are often used in hippy culture, together with the inscriptions: “PEACE, LOVE, HOPE, FAITH, JOY, KINDNESS” (the meaning of the V-sign), “2019” (the year of issue).
The obverse side of the coin depicts the standard Coat of Arms of the Republic of Benin with the inscriptions: “REPUBLIQUE DU BENIN” (the issuing country) and “1000 FRANCS CFA” (the face value).
Background information
The V-sign is a hand gesture in which the index and middle fingers are raised simultaneously in a V-shape while the other fingers are bent. The V-sign can be used in multiple ways, in both a positive and negative sense. The sign became famous mainly through Winston Churchill, who used it as a victory sign during World War II. In the 1960s, it also became a well-known symbol of peace.
